“It’s going to be the biggest boomtown that America has seen in 50 years, at least – megaboom,” Elon Musk said.
Musk said he chose the Austin area as a location for Tesla’s next Gigafactory because “Austin is a bit like mini California” and that when he asked his team in California what their top choice was, they chose Austin.
Musk confirmed his move to Texas in December 2020 after Tesla had previously announced it chose Travis County as its next locationg for its newest factory a few months prior in July.
But the electric car battery factory isn’t the only Musk endeavor sprouting up in the Austin area. His infrastruction and tunelling firm The Boring Company will soon be set up in the Pflugerville area. And Neuralink, a company dedicated to helping paralyzed patients better connect with technology by using brain implants, has also started seeking Austin-area engineers.
Musk and his partner, Grimes, were recently photographed with Dave Chappelle and Rogan at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q in Downtown Austin, though he hasn’t officially confirmed he has indeed moved to Austin himself.
And it was recently announced that Musk has surpassed Jeff Bezos of Amazon as the world’s richest man.
